Passionnée par les régions polaires depuis 2016, Cécile Fouillade, de son nom d'atelier Siqou (inspiré du mot "Siku" glace de mer en Kalaallisut, langue du Groenland) tente de recréer un univers en céramique froid à la fois délicat et puissant.

Après une formation en design graphique, elle s’oriente vers un Brevet des Métiers d’Arts en céramique au Lycée Henri Moisand à Longchamp en 2016, puis elle se forme durant un an à la Maison de la Céramique de Dieulefit.

C’est grâce à ses expéditions maritimes polaires au Groenland, en Norvège et en Islande que l’artiste trouve l’inspiration pour son travail de la porcelaine. Elle tente de retrouver les textures et formes animales qu’elle a pu observer sur ces territoires froids et fragiles. Pour elle, il est essentiel de mettre en lumière toute la beauté de ces paysages et de ces animaux extraordinaires et vitaux, qui sont aujourd’hui menacés.

Mes sculptures s’inspirent d’éléments observés sur ces territoires polaires : ossements, peaux, fourrures, plumages et textures naturelles. Sculpter ces formes que j’ai pu observer et parfois toucher est pour moi une manière de rendre hommage à ces environnements et de transmettre les émotions vécues.

Dans les cultures inuit, l’animal est au cœur de la vie : il nourrit, protège et façonne les modes de vie. Il est à la fois ressource, identité et matériau. Face à cela, j’ai choisi de réinterpréter ces textures animales à travers un matériau non animal : la porcelaine. Je cherche à en restituer le caractère sacré et sensible, tout en proposant une alternative durable, détachée de toute exploitation du vivant.

Depuis 2020, je développe une série de pièces en « fourrure de céramique ». Chaque élément est façonné à la main, créant une surface vibrante, presque vivante. Les formes et les teintes, obtenues à partir de pigments naturels, évoquent les variations saisonnières des animaux. Assemblés un à un, à la main, ces éléments construisent une texture en mouvement, proche du pelage.

Après mon premier voyage artistique au Groenland en 2019, j’ai poursuivie ces explorations lors de plusieurs résidences embarquée, notamment en 2021 en Norvège à bord du Polarfront dans la nuit polaire totale, puis en 2022 entre l’Islande et le Groenland à bord du voilier écologique Le Knut dans le jour total, avant d’être sélectionnée en 2023 par la Fondation Tara Océan comme artiste à bord du voilier d’expédition scientifique Tara lors de la mission Tara Europa en Mer du Nord.

Mon travail m'a permit de remporter le Prix de la Jeune Créations Métiers d'Art d'Ateliers d'Art de France en 2022.

Fascinated by the polar regions since 2016, Cécile Fouillade, who goes by the studio name Siqou (inspired by the word ‘Siku’, meaning sea ice in Kalaallisut, the language of Greenland) attempts to recreate a world of cold porcelain that is both delicate and powerful.
After training in graphic design, she graduated with a Brevet des Métiers d'Arts in ceramics from the Lycée Henri Moisand in Longchamp in 2016, then trained for a year at the Maison de la Céramique in Dieulefit.

It is through her maritime expeditions to Greenland, Norway and Iceland that the artist finds the inspiration for her porcelain work. She tries to rediscover the textures and animal forms she observed in these cold, fragile lands. For her, it is essential to highlight the beauty of these extraordinary and vital landscapes and animals, which are under threat today.

My sculptures are inspired by elements observed in these polar regions: bones, skins, furs, feathers, and natural textures. Sculpting these forms that I have been able to observe and sometimes touch is, for me, a way of paying tribute to these environments and conveying the emotions experienced.

In Inuit cultures, the animal is at the heart of life: it feeds, protects, and shapes ways of living. It is simultaneously a resource, an identity, and a material. In response to this, I have chosen to reinterpret these animal textures through a non-animal material: porcelain. I seek to restore their sacred and sensitive character, while proposing a sustainable alternative, detached from any exploitation of living beings.

Since 2020, I have been developing a series of “porcelain fur” pieces. Each element is hand-shaped, creating a vibrant, almost living surface. The forms and tones, obtained using natural pigments, evoke the seasonal variations of animals. Assembled one by one by hand, these elements build a moving texture, close to fur.

After my first artistic expedition to Greenland, I continued these explorations during several embedded residencies, notably in 2021 in Norway aboard the Polarfront in total polar night, then in 2022 between Iceland and Greenland aboard the eco-sailing vessel Le Knut, before being selected in 2023 as an artist aboard the scientific expedition sailing ship Tara during the Tara Europa mission in the North Sea.

My artwork earned me the Young Artists’ Award from the Ateliers d’Art de France in 2022.
